Geophysical Industry Field Trip (GIFT)

June 2 – 4, 2016

Approximately 40 geoscience students from universities across Canada attended the CSEG’s annual Geophysical Industry Field Trip. About 11 volunteers from the CSEG foundation organized the event. The event was 3 days long with 2 days in Calgary listening to presentations by sponsors about the seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation sectors. In the late afternoon Friday, the group headed to Canmore on a bus. At Canmore, CRESRC gave a short presentation and a tour of the CRESRC facility and then hosted a barbeque. On Saturday, the group went on a day-hike up to the black shale Exshaw Formation outcrop led by Dr. Barry Richards from the Geological Survey of Canada. It was a fabulous opportunity for the students to get an overview of the oil and gas industry.
